About Us:

Atlantis Jewelry is a NYC-based family jewelry design and production company started in 1996 by Arakel and Arsham Bekarian, two brothers with a combined 40+ years of master craftsman expertise in jewelry-making. Born in Turkey, a country famous for producing some of the world’s finest examples in jewelry metal smith arts, and of Armenian descent, the brothers were blessed with an early entry into their passion; Armenians in Turkey make up the majority of the country’s jewelry masters. Arakel and Arsham apprenticed under masters in the safe environment of their relatives’ business from the tender ages of 10 and 12. Arakel smiles when he recalls these early years, saying, “They (the masters) constantly teach you how to attain perfection.” Arsham readily agrees, replying, “It was intense!”

These solid bench-jeweler formative training years built the foundation of what is a relative rarity in the modern age of contract design & mostly prefabricated parts assembly- creatively strong designers who are equally skilled and “hands-on” with all bench-jewelry mechanics such as stone setting, metalsmithing, model forming, and wirework. Arakel and Arsham arrived in the US in 1984 with this combination, and quickly gained a reputation for producing high quality bench-work. As their client list grew, the brothers decided to open shop for themselves to allow for more room to focus on designing their own line. While the brothers always worked with 14k or higher concentrated gold, they launched, after public demand, a versatile line of gold-filled and vermeil jewelry that carries the same quality of work as their fine jewelry line.

What you see today reflects the brothers’ eye-pleasing aesthetic of combining the familiar classic with the exotic. Arsham gets inspired by his wife, who has a bold fashion sense and loves to wear big rings, and also, by looking at museum art from ancient times; Turkey has, after all, a long history and a unique cultural mix from both Greek and eastern heritage. The brothers’ jewelry reflects these influences in both shape and color.

Atlantis Jewelry is based in the diamond district in NYC. Long appreciated locally in the independent designer scene as “the Designers’ Jewelers”, Arakel and Arsham are excited about the mainstream’s warm reception of them, and they enjoy most, the free exchange of style ideas between designers and customers in the local independent designer markets. The brothers make every piece, ensuring the excellent craftsmanship.
